We're gonna try a teleporter system i think.  Curtis and I were discussing new things we could do, and we arethinking of linking artifacts to eachother.  So 2 artifacts with red dots link...put one on one side, the other on the other...step on it and you teleport.  Could be interesting game play change.

- Couldn't place them too close to the other base
- Probably should count them like water and your move ends when you exit the other end, maybe one space in off so that you could send more than one unit. If you didn't do this there are serveral units that would be too distructive to the mass of units at the start of the game. I don't think you would want the hounds,  or any of the deathwalkers in range that quickly.

Thanks Lazy, we actually discussed both of those.  Turns would end upon exiting the teleport on the other end, we were also thinking of using the teleporters as rapid ways up and down large elevation obsticals and such.  Something to concider anywyas.

We can even do a realm X game. Where it ports to a potion of the land not connected to the main board. Put a few goodie glyphs there and such to give incentive to go there.

We could even make some portals only work for cirtain teams, or only work one way, That way you dont have to worry about portals near start locations.

I like that idea, but it could let it self to use creating UBER UBER games that take up more than one table.

To add even more fun you could have the endpoint random based on a dice roll.

We have played around with teleports for awhile. On one of our large maps that had 8 numbered teleport pads, we added a twist...

At the start of every round roll eighteen special Jandar Flag Bearer dice. Count the number of Jandar symbols; that is the number of teleports that are operational this round.

Each player selects the teleports that he/she will use this round in secret based on the result of the dice roll. For instance, if three Jandar symbols appeared, player 1 may select teleports 2, 4, & 8 to use for this round, whereas player 2 may elect to use teleports 3, 4, & 6. The player indicates which teleports will be in use by selecting the corresponding playing cards from a regular deck of cards.

Each player will be given the cards Ace – Eight to use of one suit for this purpose. The cards only need to be revealed when the teleports are being used for travel. To use a teleport, you simply enter at one number and exit at the other at the cost of only one movement. At no point may a player end their movement on the actual teleport.

This created some tension on teh board as you saw a large army amassing near one of the teleport pads. You did not know which player or teleport pad they were going for. The choice of open portals for each player became another element of strategy to the game.

Sounds very interesting, I like the aspect of the endpoint being unknown to the other teams.

I think it would be benifical to add a roll of the 20 sided dice to make sure you can portal.
Perhaps Huge units cannot portal.

Just suggestions. :D

I do like the ideas presented by Bixby.  Our maps are normally small enough that this is not an issue.  I do recall Druid talking about scoring a third table which would make something like this a little more of a requirement.

Not a fan of the 20 sided dice role.  So much of the game is left to chance, lets not make moving units a chance thing as well.

Rolling the special Jandar dice is a way to control that, if you want more or less chance of portals being open, add or remove dice from that roll. Statistically, 1 portal will be open for every six dice rolled. There were times when someone's strategy was depending on portal use and there was only one portal open for the round, so effectively no portal use. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

I just don't want to shift the battle from one area to another, I like the waiting and moving my troops. I do like the idea of the portal to get up high places. I think instead of the 20 sided die, we could use something more relevent... more like a 50/50 chance that the portal will close before you get into it. Makes it more exciting since you might be depending on that move to advance on an enemy.

I think if you have 3 different sets of colors for portals, green (no dice), yellow (75% chance), red (50% chance) that would make for an interesting game.

Anyways just some ideas I am throwing out there.

I hear you on the troop movement Adams, to be honest, we mostly used these when we had all four tables set up. There was about 50 square feet of gaming area so the portals allowed better board coverage and sped up the troop movement while still leaving lots of room around the portals. We are currently playing with have of that space on our latest map with no portals in play.
