GO Figure no multi-player fun for us
« on: January 01, 2010, 05:24:53 PM »
Pickup New Super Mario Bros. Wii today and discover 2 out of the 3 wii motes I have are defective.

1. Could not spin jump by shaking, switch wii motes
2. Could not tilt the but could spin jump
3. only one that appears to be functional.

How is this possible? We don't even use our wii the wii motes have been sitting unused on a shelf or drawer! At least when my 360 RRODed it was do to heat and use.

That sucks :(  Our wiimotes see regular use and abuse and work fine.

Have you troubleshot this yet?  Do they work in other games?

Ran through all the steps here http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/ts/wiiremote.jsp no luck.

Haven't tried other games.. Trying to think of which ones I have might test these specific moves. Thinking about it most of the games I have played used the nunchuck and the wii mote as a pointer.

Hmm maybe wii bowling or something would be a good test.

Just tested with Super Monkey Ball which is all tilt, both the problem controllers have problems in that game as well.

OK, you may not believe this but I got one of them working after doing some searching around. The nintendo FAQ tells you to smack it with your hand face down.. Doing some more reading on forums others have been told to drop the wii mote.

After a drop, and what I would consider an abusive throw against a carpeted floor one of the defective wii motes started to fully function again. I preceded to beat the hell out of the third till I was board but no luck.

And I though blowing on carts for the NES made you look crazy.

So now I have two working wii motes and that is enough for me and reaofsunshine to play co-op...

I am guessing people that do not let their wii sit idle do not have this problem.

BTW Super Monkey Ball IS a great way to test all of the accelerometer movement as it depends on tilting in all directions.

And doing the off and on re-link trick got rid of the pointer jitter I have had almost from day one.

Okay, first of all, hilarious that you fix it by trying to break it!

Second...

And doing the off and on re-link trick got rid of the pointer jitter I have had almost from day one.

What is the off and on re-link trick?  I thought the pointer jitter was just unavoidable...

Unplugging the Wii and re joining / linking all the wii motes, it is in the Nintendo troubleshooting link.. Also cleaning the IR sensor in the front of the wii mote can help.

Pointer jitter was one of my annoyances as well on the main wii dashboard, I saw demo units that didn't have it so I always though my wii just a bit off.

I was at West Ed today and a couple stores were out. I'll probably try EB here during the week.

Though I do have Modern Warfare 2 to play through too hehe
