Marvel vs Capcom 3
« on: February 14, 2011, 04:02:42 PM »
I realized that there is no thread for this, the game is in stores tomorrow, I'll drop a full review after I've played a bit.

Anyone else getting this game?

Not I... might "play" it, but probably won't buy it.

OH man, this game is fun but frantic. Also I didn't realize how out of practice I am, all my Street Fighter calluses are gone and my wrist is pretty stiff right now LOL

I unlocked my faves though already :D (not many characters need unlocking thankfully!)

So! Here's the short list:

Pros:
-Lots of fun characters to learn and play
-The rift between top and bottom tier chars is not quite as abysmal as MvsC2
-Unlocking chars is not a huge undertaking
-Great flow to the combos, much easier to learn (I think)
-Easy game to learn, tough to master (as all good games should be)
-Difficulty levels are actually challenging, not cheap

Cons:
-Matchmaking/Netplay is horribly broken / fragile
-Missing a lot of features found in games like SSFIV (replays, character "channels", multiplayer modes)
-Some key characters are missing (Mega Man) while new additions seem unbalanced (Dante)
-Somewhat button-mashy (think Tats vs Capcom)
-Mission mode (challenges) are fairly limited in complexity
-Character models are very plastic-y looking

Overall this is a fun game but it needs some serious patching for online play to be worthwhile, as a single player or 2 player experience it's a lot of fun!

Note to Thorin: You can buy a "used" copy at EBGames/GameStop for about $10-$15 less

In my experience buying used stuff from there has been questionable, as in I question if it were ever in fact used by anyone, regardless might be worth checking out...

CowGirl reminded me I have a fifty dollar Best Buy gift certificate, so we looked to see if they sell it there - they do.  Now to find the gift cert, then find the time to go to the store, then find the time to play the game.

Time to get your hands on a slightly used Type 40 Tardis!

CowGirl was out about town and bought me the game today, HURRAH!  If I have my way, I'll be playin' it tonight!

Now just for that Type 40 TARDIS.

Which reminds me, in the newest season the Doctor actually builds a TARDIS out of scrap TARDISes.  Kinda cool!

New Doctor Who, Series 6, Episode 4, "The Doctor's Wife".  srsly, builds a TARDIS with no walls from a TARDIS graveyard.

So what's your team?

I think I'm going to focus on playing Wolverine/Hsien Ko/Tron Bonne
