yup, not surprising, but still sad news.

I hope he had enough time with his family to help them deal with his impending passing and to say goodbye.

Someone should link to the Joy Of Tech ' thanks Steve' they did a month ago, now it's a tribute to his vision and contributions and world-changing live.

"He did not meaningfully reduce poverty, or make life-saving scientific discoveries, or end wars or heal the sick or befriend the friendless. ... Let's mourn Steve Jobs as we mourn the passing of any other good man -- modestly, privately, and quietly. Those of you whose remembrances have already taken on a quasi-religious tone: seek help."

Well, that's a "think different" perspective on this event.

Not so much a church as a crazy extended family.  But hey, one of these days someone will respond to their outrageousness with gunshots and then they'll consider themselves "martyrs" for their cause.

Has nothing to do with Ray really, Apple's beating us over the head with the whole blind usability angle, which is crap (as I am doubtful you could go through the setup/configuration without touching the screen at some point).

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/06/opinion/jobs-looked-to-the-future.html
"It would be fascinating to know what Mr. Jobs would make of the outpouring of grief flooding the developed world after his death on Wednesday. While it’s certain he’d be flattered, his hawk-eyed nature might assert itself ... His impatience with fools was legendary, and the amount of hagiography now being ladled onto his life with abandon would undoubtedly set his teeth on edge."

Actually dating back to 2010 iPhoen has been the most accessible smartphone, and most popular for those vision impaired
http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2010/09/a-blind-users-profound-review-of-the-iphone/63400/

The core system has voice over prompts with a different touch screen mode that lets you scan the screen with your finger and have it read to you, then you need to hold to tap or something where normal mode would be a single tap.

The UI and even 3rd party APIs support this natively, all first party apps and core OS menus should support voice over (speak what is on the screen).

The new siri feature will make natural voice input possible.

*swoosh*

There are some features that a blind person could use for sure, they show a bunch of stuff with "regular people" using it (at which point I was like "hey, that's pretty cool I bet that would be handy for...") and then they show a blind person (at which point I was thinking "oh well there ya go") then I realized they were playing a Ray Charles tune ...

There's a point where you realize when something is patronizing, and it's right there.

I suppose, but then again Apple likes to note things with music and he is basically the most known blind singer...

One of Mozilla's Blind from Birth accessibility testers raved about the 3GS and how it guides you to whats on screen and next to your finger etc.
