At long last a new version of VLC is out
https://www.videolan.org/vlc/releases/3.0.0.html

New support for 4K and 8K as well as passthrough for HD codecs. A lot more acceleration and casting support to boot

Always use "portable" versions when possible, VKC is my only media player.

Gonna give the new version a try, thanks for sharing! Don't need 4k, but if it launches faster or makes screen capturing easier etc then I'm down. :)

One big improvement if you use Windows 10 is it actually uses the correct UI scaling for custom DPI settings on higher resolutions (huzzah!)
