The replies have some other helpful tips about reading sentences backwards etc.

Also, apparently "there's a font for that", to help avoid that 'brain auto-filling in the blanks' thing -- "Sans Forgetica lies at a sweet spot where just enough obstruction has been added to create that memory retention"

Simple copy editing tip from somebody who sucks at copy editing:

In your last pass, change the font to something unfamiliar. Then change the font size.

When you're familiar with a piece, your eyes gulp whole passages and miss typos. New fonts focus your eyes on each letter.
